Resin transfer / RTM
The resin transfer injection moulding technique has been evolving in recent years and is increasingly used for the manufacture of fibre-reinforced composite materials. The process involves the use of two half-moulds (male and female) that will be joined following the insertion of a dry fibre preform. The second step involves injecting resin at low pressure into the mould through special holes, in an accurate way, in order to impregnate the reinforcements homogeneously. RTM light® technology, or Vacuum Assisted Resin Injection (VARI), differs from traditional technology due to the addition of a vacuum. The air vacuum created inside the mould promotes resin injection, improving the homogeneity of impregnation and ensuring a higher transmission speed of the catalysed resin into the fibres. Both processes allow the production of products with a constant thickness, good mechanical capabilities and reduced production times.
