Gelcoat / Primers
Gelcoats and primers are composed of a resin, which determines their base, inert fillers and pigments, which give colour and consistency, and also an agent that gives them the necessary thixotropy; this main characteristic allows them to be applied in thick layers, even vertically. They are all two-component products, and are applied by brush or spray in thicknesses of 0.5 to 1 mm. Moulding gelcoats are applied to the model to be reproduced, previously treated with release agents, and then continue with the layering of the mould in order to obtain a perfect and long-lasting internal surface; moulding gelcoats (to protect the surface of composite parts) are instead applied directly into the mould, again treated with release waxes, and faithfully reproduce the surface.
