Vinylester
The vinylester gelcoat, of higher quality than polyester, is made with vinylester resin as it has excellent mechanical properties and high resistance to chemical agents. The properties of the resin are transferred to the gelcoat, giving rise to a product with high surface hardness even at high temperatures. It is mainly used in the aeronautical and naval sectors, where ultralight high-tech and resistant products are required. This type of gelcoat is also used for the construction of molds subject to strong stresses (hot molding in an autoclave). Like polyester, vinylester also has a version with paraffin, used as a finishing layer in the anti-acid coatings of fiberglass tanks and tanks.
